- This annual Festival held every yeart in Fowey and St Austell Bay during May. It celebrates the life and works of the internationally renowed author.


Fal Fish Festival

30th - 31st May
- Rick Stein Fish and Chip's, along with the Greenbank Hotel has agreed to sponsor Falmouth's 1st two day fish festival.


The Fal River Festival


28th May - 6th June - The Fal river Festival is all about celebrating life on the river Fal in cornwall

Royal Cornwall Show

10th - 12th June - the Royal cornwall Show is the premier annual event of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association

Tall Ships

12th - 13th June - Arthemis will be berthed on the Queens Quay for 2 days.


Sea Shanty Festival

18th - 20th June - There are 3 main aims of the ever popular Sea Shanty Festival - To create an enjoyable event for all involved. To raise money for the RNLI. To preserve and promote the maritime heritage of Falmouth and Cornwall.

Stithians Show

12th July
- For visitors the sitithians show provides the complete experience with a varied musical entertainment, food courts, crafts stalls, fairground, animal competitions and a large horticultrial Marquee.


Culdrose Air Day

28th July
- Cornwall's largest one-day annual event. Air Day at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose, near Helston features a five hour flying display and has attracted air craft from twenty countries.


Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week


8th - 15th August - This is the largest regatta in the South West, with shoreside events such as fireworks, craft fairs, RED ARROW display( sponsored by Falmouth Harbour Commissioners) and Re-enactment of Battle of Trefalgar, Seagull Outboard Race and Wench Winching.

1st May, Friday: Padstow Obby Oss
Traditional Cornish May Day Celebrations.

2nd + 3rd May, weekend: Giant Bolster Weekend, St. Agnes
This is the annual celebrations of St. Agnes, charting the rise and fall of Bolster the Giant who used to live in the area. There are lantern processions, street theatre and other activities.

3rd + 4th May, Sunday-Monday: Spring Food Fair at Godolphin
Locally produced food presented in the beautiful surroundings of Godolphin. All tickets are £2.00 per person.

7th to 16th May: Daphne du Maurier Festival
This is the annual festival held in Fowey that celebrates the author's life and works. There will be talks, plays and guided walks.

8th May, Friday: Helston Flora Day
Traditional Cornish May Day Celebrations including the famous 'Furry Dance'.

14th May to 5th Sept: Open Days at the Cold War Bunkers
This is a chance to see inside the Veryan Preserved Royal Observer Corps post. It has been restored by members of the Royal Observer Corps Association. Selected dates from 14th May to 5th September. Entry is free but donations are gratefully accepted. Booking is essential.

22nd to 25th May, Bank Holiday weekend: Run to the Sun Festival
This is the annual Custom Car and VW festival that is held in Newquay over three days.
Tickets cost £81.00 per adult and £41.00 per child for the three days.

22nd to 31st May: Falmouth River Festival
If you're interested in the environment, the arts or activities on the water, there's something in the festival for you.

24th to 13th Sept: Open Days at Gribbin Daymark in Fowey
This is a chance for the public to allow them to experience the fantastic views from the top of this 84ft tower near the Fowey Estuary. Selected dates from 24th May to 13th September 2009. Tickets cost 50p per person.

30th + 31st May, weekend: Food and Craft Fair at Trelissick Garden
A chance to sample and buy some of Cornwall's best food and crafts. A charge of £3.50 will be made per car for parking to non national trust members.

June

4th to 6th June: Royal Cornwall Show
This is a three day event that showcases the best that Cornwall has to offer in farming, food, livestock and much more. Held at the Royal Cornwall Show Ground in Wadebridge. Tickets cost £13.00 per adult and £6.50 per child.

12th to 14th June, weekend: Falmouth Shout, Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival
On the Quays and in the pubs along Falmouth's waterfront hear the songs of a bygone age when sailing clippers ruled the waves. Most venues are free.

13th June, Saturday: Redruth Murdoch Day
This is the annual celebration in Redruth.

20th to 28th June: Polperro Festival and Lights
This is the annual celebration in Polperro which includes dances, art and music.

22nd to 28th June: Golowan Festival and Mazey Day
This is the annual celebration in Penzance of Golowan which is Cornish for midsummer or the Feast of St. John. It is one of Cornwall's largest art festivals which includes street theatre and story telling. The week culminates in Mazey day which is Cornish for dazed and confused!

29th June, Monday: Bluebells and Pasties on the Quay
Enjoy a guided walk through Tremayne Woods on the Helford River and then a pasty on Tremayne Quay. 10.30am Tickets cost £6.00 per person and includes a pasty and a drink. Booking is essential.

July

4th July to 5th Sept: Art Exhibition at Falmouth Art Gallery
John Dyer is the artist in residence as part of the Darwin 200 exhibition. Free entry to the Gallery.

13th July, Monday: Stithians Show
Cornish Agricultural Show. Tickets cost £8.00 per adult and £2.00 per child. Approximate prices for 2009.

26th July to 1st Aug: Padstow Carnival Week
A carnival celebration with music, quizzes and other activities.

29th July, Wednesday: Culdrose Air Day
The Culdrose Air Day is always a highlight of the aviation year, and 2009 promises to be no exception as Naval Aviation's 100th year is celebrated in one of Europe's largest Naval Air Stations.

A traditional annual event.

14th Feb to 30th Oct: Nature Walks at Glendurgan Garden
This year marks 200 years since Charles Darwin was born. Glendurgan are celebrating with nature walks through the gardens exploring the different plants from around the world. Meet Captain Fitzroy and Charles Fox in the garden and learn about the plants from all over the world. Various dates, normal admission charges apply of £6.00 per adult and £3.00 per child.

14th to 22nd Feb: Nature Walks at Trelissick Garden
Various activities, normal admission charges apply of £6.60 per adult and £3.30 per child plus an additional charge of £1 per family per activity will be made.

22nd Feb, Sunday: Guided Walk of Carn Galva in St. Just
This is a free guided walk around this beautiful area of Cornwall.

25th Feb, Wednesday: Lecture - HMS Bellerophon and Napoleon's Downfall

5th March, Thursday: St. Pirans Day
Piran is the patron saint of Cornwall and various celebrations take place all over the county. Truro has a wonderful musical procession.

7th March, Saturday: Guided Walk at Penrose Estate, Gunwalloe
Enjoy a guided walk around this area of Cornwall and learn more about the mining history.
1pm to 4pm. Tickets cost £2.00 per person and booking is essential.

10th March, Tuesday: An Evening with Poldark

Angharad Rees, the beautiful actress who played Demelza the feisty heroine in the hugley popular TV adaptation of the Wintson Graham series of novals ia to return to Cornwall to host an 'Evening with Poldark' at the Poldark Mine, near Helston. FREE addmission with an optional small charity donation.

14th March, Saturday: Open Day at Trelissick Gardens

18th March, Wednesday: The Honour and glory of the Titanic

4th and 5th April, weekend Spring Flower Show, Boconnoc in Lostwithiel
An annual event which showcases the best of Cornwall's plants and flowers. There will be horticultural stands, botanical displays, competitive classes and a Cornish food marquee. Tickets cost £6.50 per adult and children under 16 years are free of charge.

12th April, Sunday: Open Day at Trengwainton Garden
All proceeds taken from today will go to the National Garden Scheme. Normal admission charges apply of £5.40 per adult and £2.70 per child.

15th April, Wednesday: Titanic Dinner

This is the fourth annual male voice choral festival. It is being held in Truro with concerts in the Cathedral and the Hall for Cornwall. It includes choirs from Cornwall, the rest of the UK and the world.

The first day of May is 'obby oss' day in Padstow. The origins of this traditional celebrations are lost in the midst of time, but it is thought to celebrate the arrival of spring and may even be an ancient fertility festival. www.padstow.com

Well the summer has been and gone , or what we had of it ! and the autumn is upon us and what a wonderfully glorious couple of months September and October have so far turned out to be.
Between the 18th - 21st October we have the annual oyster festival here in Falmouth . See www.falmouthoysterfestival.co.uk for the full details.It is certainly a must for all those lovers of food ,drink and all things nautical. Along with this on the 19th - 20th October is also the towns 30th annual beer festival which again will be held at Princess Pavilions organized by CAMRA , with many local and west country breweries present and quite a few from further beyond ! This is another popular and well attended event .
On a more forward note ,but similar theme is the Funchal 500 Tall Ships Regatta which is to be held next year between 10th - 13th September here in the Port of Falmouth , www.falmouthtallships.co.uk . This will be a major maritime event and one not to be missed.This is the true essence of Falmouth and its wonderful history so closely linked to that of sail and sea.
As for us here at the Hawthorne Dene we now look forward to the autumn and winter season and all it brings. The log fires will soon be lit and the winter menu's brought in to reflect the time and change of season. This is a lovely cosy time and very popular with our many regulars.
